J. Lynn: Wait for you

J. Lynn: Wait for You (Wait for you, #1)
4/5

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

This book reminded me of Jamie McGuire's Beautiful Disaster. A lot. It was probably a coinsidence, but sometimes there were almost like a "dèjá vu", like I've already read this once. Don't get me wrong, I think this was amazing book. The story was great. It was so touching and tragic. It was a real "survival story". There were just some elements that were really similar.

I think that if you read Beautiful Disaster and liked it, you'll probably like this one too. Other one that was somehow pretty similar was Pushing The Limits. I've loved all of these, there were some similar elements.

I really don't know what to say about this book. I loved it. That's it. It was great and it was really touching story. It was amazing how Avery learned to live and to trust again. And how patient Cameron was. Both had their own secrets and they had to learn to trust each other. I don't know... It was just beautiful book.

I've read a lot of reviews from people that didn't like this book and said that it was too similar with Beautiful Disaster and other NA books. I understand them and in a way I agree. It was pretty similar. But to me.. I liked. Shoot be if you want, but I really loved it.

The first thing a noticed about this book (obviously) was the cover. I love it. It was the first thing that made me want to read this book. And then I started to read the book. The beginning was great, I loved the story and idea behind this book and I thought it was really promising.

English isn't my first language, so I'm not really sure if understood everything correctly, but there were some things that kinda didn't make sense. Like the fact that first they say that there are cameras everywhere and they need to be really careful what so say or how to act, so the cameras don't catch them. And then suddenly Kaitlin and Lucas are kissing in a middle of the yard? Right. So nobody sees them, but then next time when they are sitting and talking under the tree, the guard comes almost immedialy 'cos they are in a blindspot and they can't see them. There few other times too, when I got the feeling that things didnät make sense, if you know what I mean..

What the first half of the book was really good if you can forget those things. And the truth is that almost every book has some "mistakes", so I can forgive. But I think that the other half of the book wasn't as good. The story progressed too fast and it felt pretty rushed. There weren't enought details and the book felt like it wasn't really finished. Like the first half was finished and the ending only a draft. There were so much potential and the book could have been great, but it wasn't "polished" enought.

The ending was kinda lame, everything was too easy for Kaitlin and Lucas. I can't really imagine that any multimillionare (or billionare) changing his mind so fast. First he spends millions and millions to this project and then he just changes his mind about it.

But I'm not losing my hope. I know that there are next book coming and I hope that it will be more "prefessionaly" written and maybe little more polished. The story and idea is really great and there is so much potential, it just need a little bit more polishing.

Mary Higgins Clark: Where Are You Now?

Sometimes even I need a little break from vampires and werewolves and stuff and when that happens, I have few favourite authors whose books I like to read. And the honor this time goes to Mary Higgins Clark. She is one wonderful lady. Some of you may know her, she's written so many books that it's almost miracle if haven't heard of her. She is the murder queen. She is Queen of Suspence.
She's been writing since the 70's I think. I think I (and my mother) own about 20 of her books. Maybe more. So there are lots of her books that I haven't read. This time my "escape-from-fantasy" book is...

Mary Higgins Clark: Where Are You Now? (2008)

It has been ten years since twenty-one-year-old Charles MacKenzie Jr. ("Mack") went missing. A Columbia University senior, about to graduate and already accepted at Duke University Law School, he walked out of his apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side without a word to his college roommates and has never been seen again. However, he does make one ritual phone call to his mother every year: on Mother's Day. Each time, he assures her he is fine, refuses to answer her frantic questions, then hangs up. Even the death of his father, a corporate lawyer, in the tragedy of 9/11 does not bring him home or break the pattern of his calls.

Mack's sister, Carolyn, is now twenty-six, a law school graduate, and has just finished her clerkship for a civil court judge in Manhattan. She has endured two family tragedies, yet she realizes that she will never be able to have closure and get on with her life until she finds her brother. She resolves to discover what happened to Mack and why he has found it necessary to hide from them. So this year when Mack makes his annual Mother's Day call, Carolyn interrupts to announce her intention to track him down, no matter what it takes. The next morning after Mass, her uncle, Monsignor Devon MacKenzie, receives a scrawled message left in the collection basket: "Uncle Devon, tell Carolyn she must not look for me."

----

The idea behind this book was pretty mush the same as in all Mary Higgins Clark books. Young wealthy well-educated woman with a mystery. This time it's missing brother. There are also some romance (like always) and as usual he is an old "friend". Well, her brother's friend. All the usual elements are there.

The book was book as always and as always I didn't have clue about the bad guy. There was few times when I suspected, but I wasn't sure. I read this book in finnish, so I don't if it was the translation or if this book really wasn't as good as usually they are. The writing was sometimes "clumsy". I don't know better word for it. It could have been that there was just lousy translator.

I've read a lot of her books and usually I really enjoy them. But this one... I don't know. I just felt tired. It felt like every book is the same. This time it didn't work. It just felt old. Everything was old news. I'm sorry, but couldn't she invent something new for a change.

Sorry, but I really was kinda disappointed with this book. I've liked Higgins Clark's book for years and I don't know why I didn't like this one.

Nostalgic Monday - Sunglasses after dark

I've been a passionate reader almost my whole life. The series I really loved was propably Nancy Drew-series. Well, who little girl doesn't? I've read every book that was translated to finnish, so about 100 books. There are lots and lots of other books I loved too, but that's the one I loved to most.

This blog isn't really about my childhood books, but today I'm feeling little nostaltic and want to introduce you one vampire book that I love above all. It's my very first vampire book, that I bought with my own money. I was maybe 11 or 12 years old at that time and sometimes I wonder what the saleslady was thinking when she sold this book to me, bacause this one is NOT a book for children. NOT AT ALL. And the book is....

Nancy A. Collins: Sunglasses after dark (Sonja Blue, #1)
1989

A debut horror novel featuring a vampire, Sonja Blue, who escapes from a mental hospital leaving a trail of corpses in her wake. As we learn about her early life, we are taken on a nightmarish tour of a world inhabited by other types of non-humans - ogres, zombies and, of course, vampires.

This one is REALLY old book. It was first published in 1989, so it's older than I am. (few months) It was old when I bought it and it's even older now. Well, not old compared to many many other books, but old to me. But that really was my first adult vampire book. I've maybe read some other vampire books that were childrens books, but I think that this one was my first "real" vampire book. To me it's legendary.

There are other Sonja Blue -books, that this is the only one I've read. I think there are 7 books in this series. Someday I'm going to read them too, but I'm not in a hurry.

I can't remember why I bought this book, maybe I just liked the cover. I don't think that I really knew what this book was about, 'cos I really think that this isn't really good for for kids. There are sex and rape and horror and blood and other really gory stuff, especially if you are a kid. I wouldn't let my kid read this. But I really love this book and I think that I've read it almost 10 times. My paperback is really worn out and it's a miracle it's still in one piece.

So yeah.. That's it for now. I just wanted to share this one piece with you all, cos I think that this book was monumental for me and it's propably one of the main reasons why I love vampire books and urban fantasy so much.

2014 waiting list

This year is coming to an end and it's time to look to future. 2014 is just around the corner and there are lots of great books coming up. Here's my top 10 waiting list (not in particular order), what's yours?

1. Richelle Mead: Silver Shadows

In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.

Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.

Ok, The Fiery Heart was just published, but that doesn't mean that I can't be already waiting for the next book, right? Especially after that cliffhanger.. July is long way to come, but this is absolutely one the most torturuous wait for me.

2. Marissa Meyer: Cress

In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker—unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

This is one the books that I really need. Like yesterday. I would do anything to get my hand on ACR. Luckily this comes out in feb, so hopely time will fly.

3. Kiera Cass: The One

The Selection changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. And now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen.

America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.

This one isn't actually fantasy. It's more like dystopia, which isn't usually my favourite genre, but it's beginning to grown on me. I fell like I have been waiting this book forever and there are still over 4 months.. Noooo...

4. Richelle Mead: The Immortal Crown

Gameboard of the Gods introduced religious investigator Justin March and Mae Koskinen, the beautiful supersoldier assigned to protect him. Together they have been charged with investigating reports of the supernatural and the return of the gods, both inside the Republic of United North America and out. With this highly classified knowledge comes a shocking revelation: Not only are the gods vying for human control, but the elect—special humans marked by the divine—are turning against one another in bloody fashion.

Richelle Mead is one of my all time favourite authors, so it isn't much of a surprise that there is another books of hers in my list. I think that this series is little bit different than other Meads books, but I love it all the same.

5. Wendy Higgings: Sweet Reckoning.

It’s time.

Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.

The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.

In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.

Ok, I must confess that I think this cover looks pretty stupid, but I've decided not to care. This series was something new to me and I really fell in love with this one. There's still time to april, but one must be patient, right?

6. J.R. Ward: The King

Long live the King…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle--with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything--and everyone--at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response--or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

YEJ!! Another one. I LOVE this series and I am absolutely sertain that I'll love this book too. Another Wrath and Beth story, who wouldn't love that?

7. Jennifer Estep: Killer Frost

I’ve battled the Reapers of Chaos before–and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it’s going to be a fight to the death … most likely mine.

Yeah, I’ve got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic–and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side, in Logan freaking Quinn, but I’m no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike’s Champion, but at heart, I’m still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.

Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good … or I am.

6th book in this series and I've loved every minute of it. Is it the final book? I'n not sure, but it sure sounds like it. So much have happened and it's unbelievable that this could be the end.. But every great series has to end and it's better if they don't drag it out too long, so the quality doesn't drop.

8. Brodi Ashton: Evertrue

Now that Nikki has rescued Jack, all she wants is to be with him and graduate high school. But Cole tricked Nikki into feeding off him, and she’s begun the process of turning into an Everliving herself... which means she must feed on a Forfeit soon — or die.

Terrified for her survival, Nikki and Jack begin a desperate attempt to reverse the process using any means possible. Even Cole, who they expected to fight them at every turn, has become an unlikely ally — but how long can it last? Nikki needs to feed on Cole to survive, Cole needs Nikki to gain the throne in the Everneath, Jack needs Nikki because she is everything to him — and together, they must travel back to the Underworld to undo Nikki’s fate and make her mortal once more. But Cole isn’t the only one with plans for Nikki: the Queen has not forgotten Nikki’s treachery, and she wants her destroyed for good. Will Nikki be forced to spend eternity in the Underworld, or does she have what it takes to bring down the Everneath once and for all?

In this stunning conclusion to the Everneath trilogy, Brodi Ashton evokes the resiliency of the human spirit and the indomitable power of true love.

It feels like it's been forever since I read the previous book and wait is finally almost over. The series is almost over. Yikes. And I'm still rooting for Cole. Loving Bad Guys Forever United! That's me.

9. Julie Kagawa: The Forever Song

VENGEANCE WILL BE HERS

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?

With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.

MONSTER

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions—her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost—the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

This one doesn't have even a cover yet, but I'm still waiting for this one. The previous book and it's ending... I don't know what to say.. Waiting is torture.

10. Gena Showalter: The Darkest Touch

I don't know almost anything about this, except that it's Torin's story. I've loved this series right from the beginning and this will be 11th book. Can't wait.

-----

Ok, that was my short list. I know that there are lots and lots of great books coming in 2014 and this was only the top of the iceberg and I'm pretty centain that I've forgotten few really great books from this list. But what do you think? What books are waiting for?

Marissa Meyer: Scarlet

Marissa Meyer: Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)
5/5

The fates of Cinder and Scarlet collide as a Lunar threat spreads across the Earth...

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

----

Another great book from Marissa Meyer.
The book starts with an introduction of our new character Scarlet, who is looking for her grandmother and meets this mysterious guy Wolf. I was little bit more conserned about Cinder and Kai, but pretty quickly I started to wonder how Scarlet fits into story, and how she and Cinder would meet etc.

And stroy is pure genious. There are so complex and deep story and flawless backstory. Everything fits together perfectly and we meet to new characters along Scarlet; Thorne and Wolf.

And just as in Cinder, here too Meyer has takes classic Little Red Riding Hood story and makes it completely her own. The base is there and then she has really shaken things up and the final product is perfect. And again, there are some funny details like Scarlets red hoodie.

I really must confess that this was one of those books that I just couln't stop reading. I was reading like a madwoman and I just needed to finish it. And it was great. It was amazing. And the ending... GO, CINDER, GO! Yes! It's unbelievable that she's just sixteen. She is a teenager who has been through a lot and she has managed to grow such a great and strong character and I can't wait to see how she's going to beat Levana.

Please, please, please.. I need to get Cress like NOW. Like yesterday. I would to anything to get ARC. Do you hear me? Anything!

Ps. Kai, I love you. No matter what happens. I L-O-V-E YOU!

Marissa Meyer: Cinder

Marissa Meyer: Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1)

-----

This is actually my second time reading this book. First time was in august and now I wanted to read these fisrt books of this series as I'm waiting for next book to be published (I can't wait). I didn't review this book after first time and maybe it's good, cos after second reading, the book opened to me in whole new way and I liked this book even more than.

I can't believe it that I haven't read this book before. I mean, it took over year for me to find this book. But maybe it isn't such a surprise after all, I usually don' really like cyborgs and androids etc, they're too much scifi for me. But that wasn't the case with this book, cos when I sew the cover and started reading, I couln't help, but to love this book.

Meyer has taken the traditional Cinderella story and using it as a base, she made the whole new world and story. These are many familiar elements, like evil stepmother, two stepsisters, tha grand ball and the glass shoe (except in this story its actually Cinders fallen cyborg foot). There are also many funny little details and stuff that you can remember from the original Cinderella. Like Cinders "getaway car". “It looks more like a rotting pumpkin.” There are our heroines magic pumpkin carriege.

There are also clever mentions about upcoming books. They mention quenn Levanas stepdaughter Winter (Snow White) and Cress (Rapunzel) who lives and a satellite. I think that they are things that tells, that Meyer has really thought this story and upcoming books a lot. Considering that this is only first book in this series. She doesn't mention a lot, I think that she doensn't even mention Cresses name and Winter is just queen Levanas stepdaughter.

But what should I tell about this book without telling too much... Its really well written, and the story is smooth. Cinder is lovely, smart and strong femalelead, who has been through a lot. I loved Iko and her personality, it really was something. x) Prince Kai is wonderful. He is so fair and righteous and... I just love him. He will be great emperor who has to do some really tough choises. Queen Levana is really The Evil Queen, so cruel and wicked and ruthless.

This is absolutely one of my favourite series all time and I absolute recommend it to everyone. Even if you really donät like scifi. This book has mystery, action, romance and everything you can want. And it's scifi without being too scifi.

In finnish:

Kirja on scifiä olematta kuitenkaan liian scifiä.

435 words.

OMFG! That should say it all! This just might be the best book I've read this whole year. Really. The best.

I just can't wait to see what happens next and the next book comes out next year. Next year?! No!! And it doesn't have even a name yet. This wait it going to be soooo long.

But this book. I don't even know how to explain it. At first I wasn't that impressed. But then there was some actions and the plot start to thicken and there are mysteries after mysteries and you just can't stop reading. You just have to know what happens next. The characters are so amazing, they're so detailed and everything works. I'm still rooting for Celeana and Dorian, I just can't see Chaol and Celeana together. But I think that this just might be one of those series that the main lady doesn't need any man. She can make it on her own. Caleana is one of the strongest female characters and I just can't wait to see her next move. It could be that she doesn't end up with anyboby in the end. I could certainly see it happen.

And I really can't make up my mind about Chael. I don't know where his loyalties lay in the end. The ending was pretty confusing, I think. He know the truth now, but what is he going to do with that knowledge? It remains to be seen. I think that I need to read this book again and really think things again.

But the ending.. I KNEW IT! I knew it right from the start...

Richelle Mead: The Fiery Heart

Richelle Mead: The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4)
5/5

First of all... Sorry Richelle Mead, but I don't like the cover. I just don't like it. But luckily I love all your books, so I'm willing to forgive you. But just so you know, the cover is horrible. I know that there are lots of people who love it, but I'm not one of them.

Secondly.. I'VE BEEN WAITING THIS BOOK SO LONG AND IT'S FINALLY HERE. Yej!! Finally!!

I couldn't wait, so I read it as soon as possible. It took me only few hours. And now it's over and now I need to eait yet another book.. Nooo... But maybe I can manage, I have to.

But about this book. Sydrian. Finally. Love it, love it, love it! The plot thickens and things start to really heaten up and I think that things are just waiting to explode. And as you can see, it happened. The ending was so tradig. So sad. Awful. No, no, no!!I think I need a little moment to really cry.

But the book was absolutely amazing. I have no other word for it. I loved every minute of it. The ending was pretty sad and awful and everything, but it did it's job. I just can't wait to read next book. The waiting is going to be torture. Really. I love this series so much.

"I made a sound not quite human and ended up clinging to the ceiling, my fingernails dug into the plaster like a frightened cartoon cat."

Jane Jameson is a former librarian, who gets shot by a drunk driver and then turned to a vampire. She struggles with her new immortality and place in her new worlds. And of cource she makes some enemies, even if she doesn't even know it herself (at first).

I loved it. It was hilarious. I loved it so much and it was so funny, that I couln't stop laughing while reading. I propably looked like a lunatic. There were so many so funny things, that there weren't many moments when I wasn't laughing.

First I thought that this was little bit like Sookie Stackhouse series, but I was wrong. This is so much better. SO MUCH. And it was that similar after all. That was just a first impressions.

And the ending was quite surprising. At least I thought so. There were moments when I had pretty strong suspect, but I wasn't really sure, so the things that happened in the end were surprising. So what more should I say.. This was really refreshing book to read, it's been a long time since I've read this funny book. It was great to really laught once a while.

This is the first book in Jane Jameson series, and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to read the rest of the books too. The writing is really funny and frest and just great. What more can one say?
